These are a new collection of ‘elf cups’ made from a mature beech tree that grew in Denbighshire and fell in a recent storm. The shapes are inspired by the Scarlet Elf Cup fungi which grow in winter on mossy woodland floor logs, found in particular abundance at Coed-y-Felin nature reserve, not far from the gallery. The cups are finished on the interior with Japanese Urushi lacquer, produced from their native ‘lacquer tree’. The sap is extracted and purified. When applied to wood and carefully cured at a precise humidity and temperature the sap cures into a very hardwearing surface that is resistant to hot water and alcohol.

The Whittlings

As a professional ceramic sculptor for over 30 years, Neil Dalrymple has developed a wide range of subjects for his work. His main themes are fish sculptures, wildlife in their natural habitats, birds, mythology and nude life model studies.

From 1975-1985 he lived in British Columbia in Canada in both Victoria and Vancouver. Living an outdoor life helped to inspire his interest in fish sculptures and wildlife art.

Moriath Glass

This ceramic tapas set includes three ceramic bowls, a ceramic spoon and a wooden serving platter. Each piece has been glazed using a glass dust to create ‘pools’ of colour in the centre.
