Winter Exhibition 2026
November 18th - December 20th
Paul Bailey
My career started as an apprentice illustrator for a respected company in Central London. After a couple of decades in the print and design industry I decided to reengage with my first love: painting.
Almost a decade ago my family and I moved to Mid Wales, and this move gave me the opportunity to dedicate more time to art. Also, I started exploring the spectacular coastlines of West Wales and these seascapes have been the major source of my inspiration since.
I fuse my original inspiration (comic book, graffiti), my experiences in the print graphics industry, and my willingness to experiment with the acrylic medium, and this has created a unique style which is instantly recognisable and admired.
As well as painting becoming sought after and I sold work to collectors in the UK and internationally, my dynamic, experimental semi-abstract approach, and openness to share my knowledge, has led to further opportunities to run workshops with respected organisations across England and Wales, teach with a prestigious online art school, and eventually led the publication of my book: Experimental Nature in Acrylics: Our Landscapes.
Karen Pearce
I have lived in Aberystwyth since 1965 and work from my studio just outside the town.
I began to paint in 1985 and soon after began to exhibit . Through the 1990s, I achieved some commercial success with the worldwide distribution of prints made from my images, by The Art Group Ltd for Ikea and Habitat.
In 2001, I began my formal art training at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth where I specialised in drawing and painting with a particular focus on landscape.
During my time as a student, I won a Royal Academy Landscape Scholarship for Travel.
In July 2015 I was awarded a residency by Wasps Studios of Glasgow, in the Shetland Islands
Anthony Evans
Born in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire, Wales, Anthony Evans now lives and works in Cardiff as an artist and illustrator. He is a leading member of Old library Artists, an artists’ co-operative based at Oriel Canfas Gallery and studios in Canton, Cardiff. He is also a long standing member of The Welsh Group.
He trained as a teacher at Trinity College Carmarthen and taught art and design until 1990. Since then he has worked as a full time, self- employed artist.
His images are recognisably based on the landscapes of rural and urban Wales; the villages and coast of Cardiganshire and Pembrokeshire- farms, harbours, fields, valleys- are a constant source of inspiration. He is also drawn to the industrial valleys of South Wales- terraced streets, chapels and rugby grounds are often included in his paintings and lino prints.
His compositions have a map like quality, suggesting that the viewer is drawn up into the air. Very often his compositions are narrative based where the underlying ‘story’ plays a vital role in understanding the work. He writes; “Every artist ought to have a story to tell.” My collection of stories have much to do with locality and a selfish pre-occupation with my own life since childhood. Memories, dreams and Wales are the elements that are the basis my work and vision as an artist.”
Jon Dudley
Jon’s work relies on the building and interplay of layers to create depth and narrative. Paint and collage are disrupted; sanded, scraped and peeled back to reveal traces of what came before. A sense of history develops within each piece; an intimate balance between the present and previous iterations.
For him, painting is a practice of discovery where life, memory and the abstract coalesce. Each piece begins with an openness to possibility and his work is allowed to unfold organically, even when observation lays the foundation, “...I trust the painting to guide its own direction, letting intuition and process shape the outcome.”
He lives in the beautiful landscape of Carmarthenshire and is bounded by Bannau Bryceiniog and the dramatic coastlines of Pembrokeshire and the Gower. Rich sources of inspiration.
Works are created plein air and in the peaceful retreat of his garden studio.
He trained at the Royal College of Art, London, and at Carmarthenshire College of Art.
