Paul Vining

Paul works from a studio in Cardiff, producing individual pieces of stoneware ceramics, in which the emphasis is on ceramic form. Some pieces are thrown on the wheel, others coiled, and some produced using both techniques. All the pieces are high-fired, either in an electric kiln, or reduction-fired in a gas kiln that he has built himself. He has developed his own glazes, often using found raw materials especially wood ash. In the field of ceramics, Paul’s creative influences range from prehistoric pottery to the work of modernist studio ceramicists such as Hans Coper.
