Coloured porcelain slipcast head with copper lustre. Stoneware body.

Height 52cm

Width 20cm

Nic Stace makes ceramic sculptures that explore identity, change, and how we move through different roles in life. She works using a mix of handbuilding and slip casting, combining rough, heavily grogged clays with smooth porcelain. Her figures stand strong and grounded, but they have interchangeable heads and no clear front or back. This reflects the idea that identity is not fixed, and that we often shift how we present ourselves over time. Nic allows cracking, texture, and imperfections to remain visible, seeing them as an important part of the work rather than flaws. Humour is used to create warmth and connection, balancing more vulnerable themes. Drawing on personal experience, memory, and the physical realities of ageing, her sculptures invite viewers to reflect on resilience, adaptability, and the shared human experience of change.
